Radon Testing
......................................................................................................................
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas which is a by-product of the half-life decay of uranium. Radon can be found virtually anywhere in measurable amounts. Because it is radioactive it is a known carcinogen and is, in fact, the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. Radon cannot be detected without test equipment. PHI uses only State-of-the-Art Continuous Radon Monitors such as the one pictured here. CRM's also have the additional benefit of having built in environmental monitors and tamper monitors to insure that the test was done according to the EPA protocol and the tester or environment were not tampered with or artificially altered. With these we can easily determine whether or not a home has an elevated radon level . According to the EPA an elevated level would be a level above 4.0 pico-curies/liter of air. If a home has an elevated radon level it can be generally be corrected with realtive ease for a cost similar to a termite treatment (in the neighborhood of $600.00 to $1200.00). The EPA recommends that all home buyers have their new property tested for elevated radon levels prior to moving in. PHI will be happy to assist you in this. If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to call or ask when scheduling your home inspection appointment.
